His career spans songs, television comedy and books for younger readers, including the Os Super 4 series with Pedro de Freitas Branco. His lyrics and productions have reached several generations of Portuguese audiences. ## Life and work Pinho founded Banda do Casaco with Nuno Rodrigues, combining lyric writing with production. During the 1980s, his writing and production work connected him with performers including Doce, José Cid and Rão Kyao. He also began writing humour for Herman José's radio and television programmes. In 1990 he founded Companhia das Ideias to develop television and music projects. His work for younger audiences includes Os Super 4, with Pedro de Freitas Branco, and Formiga duma Figa, published in 2020 with illustrations by João Vaz de Carvalho. The publisher's author page includes a video presentation. [3] ## Origins and early career Filarmónica Fraude emerged in 1968. Pinho wrote its lyrics while António Luís Linhares de Sousa supplied the music. Their 1969 album Epopeia combined Portuguese historical subjects with contemporary criticism. RTP’s archive also preserves a 1970 television performance of Na Ilha Virgem, giving a view of the group beyond its records. [4] ## Works and achievements Banda do Casaco began in 1973 and released Dos Benefícios dum Vendido no Reino dos Bonifácios in 1975. The collaboration brought Pinho’s lyrics together with Nuno Rodrigues and a changing ensemble of musicians. Television was already part of this period: RTP credits Pinho and Rodrigues among the writers of Bobi, a 1975 programme combining comedy and music. The broadcaster’s dated Banda do Casaco recording of 22 June 1975 provides another contemporary reference. These programmes precede his later work for Herman José and show that his television career did not begin only in the 1980s.
