Life and public service
Nelson José Estrela Lopes Cunha became mayor of Entroncamento on 24 October 2025, elected for Chega. He studied sociology at the University of Coimbra's Faculty of Economics and undertook an Erasmus exchange at Goethe University in Frankfurt. Before entering municipal leadership, he built a career in business operations, project management and team supervision in Portugal and abroad. He spent several years working in England and returned to Portugal in 2022.
A 2021 interview documents his progression from restaurant work to a management position in London. His first municipal term runs from 2025 to 2029. Among his documented activities as mayor, a July 2026 meeting with Comboios de Portugal addressed unused railway properties, possible affordable housing, railway heritage and passenger capacity on services departing from Entroncamento.

The 2021 interview gives a first-person account of moving to England, starting in restaurant work and progressing to management. The municipal profile subsequently records a return to Portugal in 2022 and a Projects Manager role at Royal Botanic Gardens in June 2023–April 2024. These are published career accounts; no unsupported assumption is made about the location or terms of that later employment.

The September 2025 campaign video covers security, Parque do Bonito, immigration and economic activity. His first mayoral interview set out audit, security and social-policy priorities. A Lusa report of 17 April 2026 presents contrasting six-month assessments: Cunha emphasised changes in municipal management, while PSD and PS representatives criticised the absence of a longer-term strategy. These are attributed political assessments, not independently demonstrated outcomes.
