Life and public service

Jaime Manuel Gonçalves Ramos served as mayor of Entroncamento from 2001 to 2013, representing the Social Democratic Party. Before becoming mayor, he worked for Banco Pinto e Sotto Mayor and entered the municipal council as an opposition councillor in 1993. His public life also includes a long association with local football: he played for Ferroviários and CADE and was a founding member of the Clube Amador de Desportos do Entroncamento.

In July 2013 he was appointed president of the National Railway Museum Foundation, a role he continued to hold during 2017. His foundation presidency covered the museum's opening in May 2015 and its subsequent development as a public institution. He returned to the municipal executive as an opposition councillor in 2017, while remaining involved in the city's sporting and railway institutions.

Education and professional career

His 2003 interview places his entry into the municipal executive in 1993 as an opposition councillor and describes a banking career alongside a strong association with local football. His later leadership of the National Railway Museum Foundation is documented in its institutional reports. This distinguishes municipal office, foundation management and sporting activity rather than treating them as a single continuous mayoral role.

[1][2]

The municipality and its public works

The municipality’s account of the museum opening on 18 May 2015 names Ramos as museum president and Jorge Faria as mayor. Both participated in unveiling the plaque with the government representative. Earlier, RTP reported a 2011 dispute over pedestrian safety at Entroncamento station, carrying the council’s demands and REFER’s response. These sources show both heritage development and contested railway-infrastructure questions.

[4][5]

Public life and debate

His later public record also includes a judicial controversy. The April 2019 Assembly minutes and Médio Tejo’s report describe a conviction for prevaricação de titular de cargo político, with a two-and-a-half-year suspended sentence, and debate over his continued council membership. The linked minutes record participants’ statements, not the judgment itself. No later judicial disposition is established by these sources, and no additional offence is inferred.

[6][7]

The municipality and its public works

His 2009 interview discussed the future of Parque do Bonito, planning, education and rail fares at the start of his final consecutive term. In 2017 he returned as the PSD candidate. The campaign presentation provides photographs and his criticisms of the subsequent administration, which belong to an electoral argument rather than a neutral assessment of the city.
